Plans for a marina and direct deep-water access to the Atlantic Ocean will allow Seawatch at Sunset Harbor to offer convenient, year-round water activities.
For the fishing enthusiast, the area hosts plentiful deep-sea charters and local experts on seasonal salt and freshwater fishing expeditions. Also readily available in the area are rental services for backwater charters, fishing schools, jet skis, scuba diving trips, parasailing, sailing, and sunset cruises.
With ocean temperatures during the winter months in the 70s in the Gulf Stream and the 50s close to shore, king mackerel, sea bass and tuna are good catches in the ocean and stripped bass in the rivers. Throughout the spring, summer and fall, red drum, Spanish mackerel, tarpon, flounder, sea bass, blue marlin, sailfish, wahoo, and dolphin are just a few plentiful species available. Additionally, inshore, offshore, and surf fishing tournaments and events like the U.S. King Mackerel Tournament, which attracts over 500 boats each year, offer excitement and prizes for the competitive fisherman year-round. www.ncfisheries.net
